"To me Van Gogh is the finest painter of them all. Certainly the most popular, great painter of all time. The most beloved, his command of colour most magnificent. He transformed the pain of his tormented life into ecstatic beauty. Pain is easy to portray, but to use your passion and pain to portray the ecstasy and joy and magnificence of our world, no one had ever done it before. Perhaps no one ever will again. To my mind, that strange, wild man who roamed the fields of Provence was not only the world's greatest artist, but also one of the greatest men who ever lived." ~ Vincent and the Doctor, Doctor Who
This is my version of Vincent van Gogh’s painting “Wheat Field with Cypresses”!
I did this for my art history class, and I'm quite pleased with the result. Although, the camera didn't capture the sky right, it's too blue in the photo.
As I painted this work, I reread about van Gogh's life and I fell in love with his work all over again. It was like rediscovering all the beauty in his works again, and I felt this excitement again, how is to create something. So, it's like van Gogh's works gave my inspiration back!
Van Gogh's work always lifts my spirits and at the same time I feel such sadness. He inspires me not to give up on my art no matter what I've been dished out in life. oh and that was maybe my favorite episode of "Doctor Who"...I caught myself tearing up at the end...lol
